TNI has released a new beta version of MoonSound Music Studio (MS²) for the people who donated. MoonSound Music Studio is a new tracker based on MBFM and MBWAVE for the Moonsound and supports FM and WAVE channels in a user specified split at the same time.

This update comes with a lot of bug fixes and some new features. In the new version good progress was made on the pitch envelopes and tempo mechanism, but it's not entirely finished yet. These features, together with the options to switch channels between FM and WAVE and saving your music, are expected to be finished in the new beta. Last but not least, a start was made with the manual. It's not fully finished yet, and TNI would appreciate help on this.

Full changelog:

  • MWK import was fixed and cleaned and now replicates Moonblaster's behavior
  • MS² now has its own keyboard handler and no longer uses the BIOS. Currently there is support for International and Japanese keyboards. This will allow mouse support in future versions.
  • Disk drives are selected inside the file selector and it properly deals with situations such as Disk Offline.
  • Configuration is saved on program exit, instead of being a manual option in the configuration menu.
  • While playing, space bar now stops at the current pattern, just like the STOP key already did.
  • In the wave editor, CTRL+up/down and CTRL+left/right are swapped, to have the same behavior as CTRL+up/down/left/right in the music editor.
  • "Modulation" is now called "Pitch Envelope" and is rewritten, but not yet finished. M, P+ and P- events are all the same thing now. The length of each envelope is dynamic in theory, however it's currently not possible to change the length in the editor.
  • The instruments manager was improved to allow insertion and deletion of 2OP, 4OP and WAV instruments with INS and DEL keys.
  • Tempo is specified in division of the interrupt frequency (tempo 2 is fastest and tempo 31 is slowest). Under the hood it makes use of fixed point, which will allow the next version to have a Beats Per Minute setting!
  • Detune command is now key [U].
  • The CMD channel which was left over from Moonblaster is gone. Tempo commands, transpose and base tempo can be placed in any channel.

If you want to support the development of this new tracker and want to help with beta testing, you can sign up as a beta tester by donating at least 15 euro. Details can be found on the TNI project page.

Great! But I see a lot of garbage on the screen when in Z80 mode. Is this correct Patriek? No problems in R800 mode.

Even better: a video with some playback and editing. Why should anyone pay 15 euro to test a product they never saw?

Wow, time flies indeed. I got a demonstration at Nijmegen fair, and I can say, it TOTALLY works, and more. If you plan on creating music for Moonsound in the future, you really want this.

Okay, thanks, and was it capable to import ADPCM samples as well converting them to PCM for OPL4?

Since GuyveR800 is banned here, he asked me to relay this message: If nothing comes in between again, a new private beta version should be out soon. No ADPCM loading yet, but it will have loading and saving in a native file format.

Why do you think people get banned? I don’t think it needs to be brought up again.

Either way, his “alter ego” still posts with relative frequency Smile. I don’t know why syn had to convey the message in this case. Maybe to retain a bit of anonymity to avoid flamebaits.

If you look at the thread where it happened, you see he gets banned for arguing with the admins. They do not like their AUTHORITAY disrespected. The so-called "evidence" they post is a joke, especially because some of the things they list were clearly supportive in character.

His questions were ignored. He was ordered to "behave" with no explanation of what that meant.

I will no doubt get reprimanded again for saying this, but the power mongering MRC admins are scaring people into submission and self-censorship. This is not a healthy way to foster a community.

He can't even respond to questions about his own products and people do not know he is banned. To them, it looks like he is abandoning his work and ignoring his audience...

The MSX community shouldn't ban people, there are just not enough of us left alive to do so.

The MSX community didn't ban anyone, the admins of this site did and I honestly don't see the merit in digging up this discussion. The issue has been fully explored, everything that could be said about it has been done so already, and nothing new has come up in the meantime. So this is a friendly request to give it a rest.

Yes, I figured. Smile Almost every day I wish it were different, but the dude can't defend himself here anymore. In my humble opinion it's for the best if the matter remains in the past. I sincerely hope further discussion on here will be focused on the product itself.
