If it is true, it is a great news, too bad we will have to wait some days to know if it is not an april's fool joke.

Don't worry, it's not a joke. Simply I was not sleepy when I decided to publish the news post at 2 a.m. in the morning... and I didn't realize it was 1 April. that's all! Tongue

Hi! .. Sky Jaguar is not a joke Smile ... it is a project developed for testing/improving the development tools of the MSXVR computer. The final goal is to have a cartridge with two games: one game that runs over MSX1/2/2+/TR and another game that runs over an MSXVR. The idea is to demonstrate the multi-platform cartridge support and the capability of MSX/MSXVR software production using adhoc tools. The code of this game has been done using VR-Script and Native Z80 ASM. Why Sky Jaguar 2? Well .. I have dedicated a lot of hours playing this game when I was young, I think the concept of the game is not technically complicated and we needed something "easy" to develop. For the artist of this game was the first time that he creates something for MSX too, so it has been good as start point. We hope the game will be funny for the people and could be used as an example for learning how to create MSX and MSXVR games. Regards!

I don't know if I understood correctly

The MSXVR version is identical, or with improved audio/graphics?

The MSXVR version will have improved audio/graphics, yes, that's the idea.

I hope it'll be more fun than this; I may prefer the original to this one. It's definitely related to the MSX game (game over tone, the tone played when the level bosses are destroyed, the lines of enemies flying at the player).

Gameplay video on Youtube

The game was only 4€, so maybe it is in the right ballpark for the price. I'm just not a fan of how long it takes to power up the ship and the (apparently unadjustable) audio balance between sound effects and music (and how loud the enemy ships exploding are).

I try to view retro games through the lens of modern game design sensibilities, which might be a bit different view.
