Videos on YouTube from SymbOS with G9k driver

Prodatron, the developer who never seems to take a break from expanding SymbOS, currently has his driver for the Graphics9000 nearly ready. Two videos of SymbOS in action, using the Graphics9000 configuration, have been placed on YouTube. With this driver, an often outspoken wish of many MSX fans seems to have become a reality!

Please note, that the resolution in the demo is not that impressive, as I currently get only B2 (384x240) mode working with my TFT display. B3 (512x212) and B4 (768x240) are supported as well, but make problems with my TFT.
What is impressive is the speed (e.g. see the page jumping in SymZilla at the beginning of the 2nd video) and the virtual desktop of 1000x220 pixel Tongue

Hey, very cool! I'd expect teh framerate of the videos to get higher than 6 fps though (I get that on a normal turboR).

Yes, sure, but they are originally generated with 6fps, so that's the maximum. I have to make new ones for the G9K! Smile

Looks like it got the speed boost it needed to become nice and smooth system!

I want it! Any idea if that CF card problem is fixable so it will actually run?

Yes, it's a TV-TFT from Thomson, which was not that expansive but has a lot of usefull inputs: Scart, SVideo, RGB, Antenna and VGA.
Usually I use SVideo for my TurboR and Scart for my MSX2. Btw, I wonder if I can connect the GFX9000 also to the VGA input via a different cable?

You need a vga converter box for that kind of stuff. Unfortunately the box will reduce the picture quality so much that it's better to use the S-Video/RGB connector on the TV instead.

Addendum to my last post: If you are able to find an old VGA monitor which supports VGA at 15.3 Khz it's possible to use a RGB to VGA cable without a VGA converter.

But you can't use an vgabox with gfx9k because it dont output svideo nor cvbs.

It depends on the "box". Those which are able to convert from RGB to VGA are much more expensive than those which only convert S-Video and CVBS. That's why I think it's best to use the RGB scart connection on the TV instead.

they're called scanconverters, and the results depend on the price as well...
with veejaying some people use it to go from VGA to composite (so you can plug it into a mixer).
but I guess it drops frames or it's costing you quality

With some extra components you can connect a gfx9000 directly to a vga monitor, but this only works in de vga modes
