The announcement for 2018's annual MSX meeting/fair in Nijmegen is coming even later than last year. The cause of this delay is that the organiser of the event, Manuel Bilderbeek, was informed by the municipality of Nijmegen that community centers in Nijmegen are not available anymore for activities in which any kind of sales take place.

So, a new alternative had to be found. Two very good alternatives are currently looked at and a decision will be made soon. But you can already save the date!

Manuel hopes to welcome you all at this (soon to be announced) new venue on Saturday 3rd of February 2018, so write that date down in your agenda! As usual, all pertinent information and details, such as location (as soon as it's decided upon) and the booth registration that should appear two months before the event, can be found on the MSX Fair Nijmegen website.

In the mean time, feel free to give your opinion... you have a chance to influence this decision! The fair is meant to be fun for everyone, so we're happy to involve you to make it a great day for you too!

We have two options:

  1. Zaal Verploegen in Wijchen. This is a room of barely 180 square meters with a nice atmosphere. 40 tables fit exactly, and then the room is full. Dinner will be in the in-house eatery, based on a simple menu. Price is good, but higher than previous years for less floor space. There's plenty of free parking space around the building. For an impression, see the website of Verploegen in Wijchen (we're looking at Piano zaal 2)
  2. De Lèghe Polder in Beuningen. Here we can rent a small sports hall of 350 square meters, with a curtain to make it 280 square meters. 40 tables fit easily with plenty of room left to make some nice sitting or standing area to talk. Dinner will be Chinese food buffet, in-house, arranged by caterer Fong Shou. Price is much lower than previous years. Outside the sports hall there is more atmospheric area with a bar, tables, etc. Parking is in the streets or public parking space near the building (1-2 minutes walking). For an impression, see Lèghe Polder sportzaal as well as the whole building.

So, do you prefer a larger room with a sports-hall atmosphere (like old times fairs?) and Chinese food, or a tight more expensive room with more atmosphere and a non-Chinese-food menu? Your input will be taken along in the decision!

Hi Manuel,
Both have pros and cons.
As I understand, both have in-house catering in the building (for coffee, tea, soda etc.)?

The one is almost twice the size of the other. Looking at that the smaller one is more expensive than the bigger one, the choice would seem to go for me to the sports hall. Atmosphere is what people make of it as well Wink

I agree with Wolverine. And we need to have a chinese restaurant around! Let´s do some Hyper Sports!

For clarity:
- both have an in-house bar where you can buy drinks and small food
- in both options, no Chinese restaurant. But in Beuningen we can arrange a restaurant to come over and do Chinese catering for us, giving the same experience but instead of in a restaurant, we're near the bar, which is near the sports hall all in the same building. In Wijchen, we will have to use the menu of the in-house eatery (small restaurant) "Vrienden", so no Chinese food at all there.

The Zaal Verploegen in Wijchen looks really cozy, my vote would go for this one if there's enough space for everybody Smile

Agree. Wijchen also has the option for the larger (albeit more expensive) space in case this turns out to be too small after all.

o.geerdink: the travelling distance from Utrecht Centraal is equal to both locations (and to the one of last year). So the train station doesn't help much or at least doesn't make a distinguishing factor.

Louthrax, are you planning to visit again as well? Prodatron and I like to stay in a hotel like we did last years as well.
Mercure is always perfect, because the location of the center.. But this time bit far maybe from location? but i see no Hotel near the fair. Anyway we can always share a taxi :-)

Hi Edoz,

Yes, I'll be there! I have not checked the hotels or other accomodations possibilties near the new location yet. The Mercure is fine anyway (not too far from the city center bars for the after-Chinese-party Smile). I might have Hamlet with us in the car, so fitting everybody (5 persons with my wife) with the MSX stuff might be tight, but Prodatron will have his car right?

Drive time from Nijmegen center to Beunigen center is only 21 minutes, and 25 minutes to Wijchen center.

Price difference is: 160 euro for 350 square meters (Beuningen) vs. 400 euro for 400 square meters (Wijchen).
But the price is not going to be a deciding factor, I think. The booth holders indicated they find current prices quite low, so going higher is not a problem. Also, sponsoring will definitely help to cut prices the coming few years.

Yesterday, there was an MCWF event. MCWF is a regular boothholder at this fair. Their chairman received a mail from Manuel the fair will take place in Wijchen. Also a floormap was already attached. It seems there was a voting system in two rounds amongst the regular boothholders....

Don't quite understand the function of this survey now, but anyways.....

I did not send a mail that the fair will be held in Wijchen, so that must be some misunderstanding. I did make a concept floorplan for both Wijchen and Beuningen and sent it to all booth holders and asked them (of course) also which venue they're preferring.

So far it's about 1/3 Wijchen, 1/3 Beuningen and 1/3 "don't care". Interesting Smile

I would like to know whether the location in beuningen has free parking or not. It is not really clear from the description. While I usually go by train, there is always the small % chance I come by car.

syn: yes, there's free parking. It's just not directly at the venue, but you can just park in the streets close to it and a few parking lots a minute or 2 walking away. Just keep an eye on the blue zone, where there is a limit of 2 hours parking. The venue is just in the blue zone, so better park outside of it.

I don't know if I can make it or what else I might be doing at the time. I plan to visit Rotterdam soon. If I find something I like there, then I might return not long after that. I might combine that visit with a trip over to this fair. I remember I once had a pen friend in or very near there in a place called Gent. I think it was about 7Km from Gent to Beuningen, but I've just done a search and can't find it! Google Maps even thought I meant Ghent, Belgium! Has nearby Gent been demolished, evacuated or what?

I think an important factor in the choice of venue is what non Chinese food might be available. If we don't know in advance, then it could be quite like the EU Referendum in Britain. Even the voting figures you stated above look similar! In this case, the non Chinese food option might win, but people may not know exactly what food they're getting until after the vote, just like the EU Referendum! You might contact the venue and be told they'll just go and get whatever food is available on the day. If the meal Stoofvlees was available with Frieten or Stoemp, then I'd go for that. This is a speciality of Flanders, in both Belgium and France, but I heard it mentioned on a recent episode of "Goede Tijden, Slechte Tijden", so perhaps it's now available in the Netherlands as well.

BTW, I think you should wear a badge with your name on it in case you change your image again, as well as for people who have never seen you before.

I'd love to meet you guys (again) as well... It all depends on the personal condition of the day. I'm not a frequent visitor of fairs anymore but do hope to go some time in the future again. No idea when that future is...
