UMJA MSX USB Mouse / Joystick adapter Review

During the MSX fair in Beuningen earlier this year, MSX Information Network crew member George van Halderen, also known as Wolverine_nl here on MRC, bought the UMJA MSX USB Mouse/ joystick adapter from TMTLOGIC.

Since there was not much information about this very useful piece of hardware on the internet, he decided to write a short article about it himself, in the form of a review of the UMJA MSX USB Mouse / Joystick Adapter on MSX Information Network.

As a bonus, MSX Information Network, in association with TMTLOGIC and MSX-Shop.nl, arranged a special discount offer for readers of their site who want to buy the adapter. More information about this can be found in the review itself.

Over the years, MSX Information Network, a site founded and owned by MRC user and MSX fan Erik Luppes (Luppie) has been a steadily growing source of technical information and articles. One of the biggest recent additions to the site is the official MSX-Archive mirror, which they now host. Besides this, they plan to add more reviews in the future so stay tuned for more!

It's funny that me and Wolverine_NL bought the adapter at the same time and while I haven't even connected mine yet, he already tested it, used it, and wrote a review about it. Good job Wink

I think I might give this adapter a chance. I do have an original Philips mouse, but I don't like it one bit.

I bought the Mk Mouse II at the last fair, haven't used it a lot yet so I'm not sure how good it is.
I'm also considering this adapter.

Well, if you want to find out what software actually supports a mouse, since recently you can filter Generation-MSX's database for software that supports mouse as input device. ;)

A question for expert user: will an USB HID device such a gamepad work as a standard MSX joypad with UMJA?

Not yet, but it is not meant for that, the firmware is meant for PS2 / USB HID Mouse. So big chances are that it will not work.

You can put your regular MSX joystick in the port next to it to still be able to use it.
On ebay there is a seller that sells Playstation controller to MSX-joyport devices, he also sells other combinations, better look for those if you want a chance for USB joystick/controller to MSX-joyport.

Thanks Wolverine, since it implements HID host, it would be quite cool be able to use a Xbox 360 controller or other standard hid USB controller as an option.
