3rd Under Water Challenge entry: Kobashi

Vincent van Dam sent us the third entry for the Under Water Challenge. Vincent submitted a game to this challenge, just like he did for the Snowfall challenge. Unlike that entry this game is suitable for one and two(!) players. The entry requires an MSX 1 computer with at least 16kb memory. The game fits in a 8kb ROM and its purpose is to live as long as possible by eating the food dropping from the surface.

If you join the Under Water Challenge, you can win one of the nice prizes we have listed in this newspost, like XAK II, Hydlide 3 MSX2, PAC, etc. So, what are you waiting for? Show the world how cool it is to create something new on MSX! Be sure to send your submission(s) in before May 15th, 23:59 CET to blub@msx.org. Needless to say, you are allowed to send in more than one submission. Happy MSXing!

Congratulations! Really cool game and smoothly programmed, I like it.
Have you considered to enter MSXdev'04 with it? It fits the rules: 8 KB MSX1 ROM to be used in any MSX with at least 16 KB of RAM.

Good job, Vincent.

Kind regards,

Ed Robsy

Thanks Ed. I didn't consider entering MSXdev'04 with this entry. When I started it, it needed 64Kb to run, but I polished it to use $fd9a instead of $38. Maybe I will enter MSXdev'04, who knows, but time is very limited Sad

GuyeR800, Wolf, I am getting very curious Smile Too bad I am on holiday in Denmark starting saturday (hence the early submission) . I'll just have to be patient I guess...

Thanks for the comments!

If you havn't pause the game already (f1 or stop), you should definately do that and wait for about 5/6 seconds. Not spectacular, but a few messages will be displayed. Also, if you don't start the game, it will continue in attract mode, and after that loop back to the scroller.

My personal highscore was around 15000, but I tweaked the gameplay a bit after that, so I don't know if I can reach that again. But I can easily beat 1890 points Smile
