This Saturday, Club Sprite, in collaboration with Gamer-Freaks, is to hold a shooter competition in Barcelona. Usually a competition like this would not make it to frontpage, not even when it's called Invaders Must Die, but the inclusion of Compile's MSX2 shooter Aleste 2 totally makes it worthwhile! The person who can get the highest overall score by playing this MSX2 gem, DoDonPachi and ESP Ra.De. is to win a voucher of € 50,-. For those who want to come well prepared: Aleste 2 is to be played with a Sony Dual Shock controller, connected to a One Chip MSX, running on 60Hz.

Aleste 2 is to be played with a Sony Dual Shock controller
Telemach or GTFO Tongue

BTW they say that the Aleste saga is composed by three games... what game is the third one? Question

EDIT: They say too that players can bring their own joystick. Too bad I can't be there.

Aleste Gaiden? Big smile

Well, there are more Aleste games, but not for MSX.

j4mk3, boot disk B or C with [SELECT] held down.
You get to the music mode, but you can also set the difficulty there.
Upper row is for sound, choose with [LEFT] and [RIGHT].
Lower row is for difficulty, choose with [UP] and [DOWN].
There are 3 modes.
The easiest mode is 'human', which looks like this:

I think to have noticed that 'human' is NOT always the default setting.

[SHIFT] = start sound
[SPACE] = stop playing
Choosing sound number zero with shift = exit

By the way, after exiting the music mode, you can choose which area to start in at the weapon select screen.
Use the [SELECT] button together with the vertical cursor keys.

IIRC the difficulty level is set to human when you boot from disk A, and to more difficult when you boot from disk B. I vaguely remember asking Niitani about this and him telling me this was intentional behavior.
