Remakes of MSX games seem to be growing in popularity lately: Leandro Correia just released the first beta version of his Skooter remake. All collisions with enemies and blocks are done, graphics are for 99% finished. The only thing missing is different floor shapes for each stage. The game is playable, although the enemies don't kill you and you can't commit suicide. This all has one reason: Skooter's death routine isn't finished yet. When you get stuck in a stage, you'll have to restart the game for now.
It seems the game is incomplete, but actually it's finished for about 90%, since it's rather easy to implement the still missing routines.

How to play: use space and the cursor keys to move around, [ESC] to quit and [F10] to toggle framerate display. Please contact the author when you get less than 20fps or more than 100fps. There are two MIDI-songs in the 'sounds' folder. As Leandro doesn't know how to edit them, please contact him if you know how to do so.

Sorry, but I can´t. It´s being done in Blitzbasic. Only available for Windows/DirectX. Have you tried using Wine or something similar?

I only miss those hearts which enable you to catch those robots.

Does it also contain the witty sayings?

I still remember a few:

- If it's tuesday, this must be belgium.
- Why is a raven like a writing desk?
- Things computers can't do: understand what people see in Barry Manilow
- Very wise sayings #442: save a tree, eat more woodpeckers!

Well, guys...

It´ll contain everything. Those sayings that appear at the end of each stage need only to be typed. Hearts will be added after I fix enemy behavior (they walk too straight at Skooter´s direction now, it´s kind of stressing). Hearts are defined in the maps, as their graphics (that can be seen in the images folder as "coracao.png"), they´re just not implemented yet. I will do now, in this order:

1) Finish enemies.
2) Implement hearts
3) Include Skooter´s death routine.
4) Type the funny sayings at the end of the stages.
5) Finish joystick support.
6) Add an options menu.
7) Add an level editor.

The reason that made me release this beta (alpha?) was just to see if anyone finds a nasty bug.

By the way, if anyone in here has a jurassic computer, like a Pentium 133 Mhz or lower (!), please try to run this remake in it and tell me what is the framerate reached (press F10 to display the framerate).
