A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.... well, actually... present date, the Spanish developer Unasp Retrosoft, known from Tronkotron and Meteorito, announced he has almost finished his first ever project coded in Z80 assembly: Star Wars: The Attack to the Death Star.

Based on the Star Wars franchise, you join the dark side as you play Darth Vader. The Death Star is under rebel attack and only your Tie Fighter can stop them. The game will contain two different elements, first you have to prevent X-Wings from reaching the Death Star's weak spot, then you have to stop the rebels from launching a proton torpedo.

On his weblog, Unasp is frequently reporting about the progress of game development. Also, the first box art and in-game graphics have been revealed.

Links seem to be working just fine.

Am I correct that this is the first Starwars game on MSX?

According to "generation msx" there is a star wars game from 1988 developed by The Bytebusters. It looks like a clone of "missile command".

That's not enough star wars for MSX!

But the old and rubbish "Star Wars" game form MSX is about the Cold War's "Star Wars" from Reagan government... not the film franchise. Anyway, it's possible to play Star Wars with the Mission Coleco emulator.

You are wright spl.

The Laydock series are heavy influenced by Star Wars... there is even a "trench run" in Super Laydock where you end up blowing a small gate and flying into the structure... and it all smells like Death Star. I think Super Laydock is the best starwarslike experience in msx. Do you agree?

It seems nice but why we see so few developped games on the MSX 2,2+ and Turbo-R?

Nice, a new game coming for MSX again!! Smile In-game screen looks colourful! Smile

There is at least one more (probably more) MSX-BASIC Star Wars game, it´s finnish mid-eighties SVI & MSX game called "Star Wars", and it was quite like the one mars showed in his link, published as listing in Mikrobitti magazine. Magazine used another name for it, but I don´t remember what it was.

You know what the MSX slogan should be?
If you want it, you can make it yourself. ;P

It just seems people (the ones that create) are in general more interested in MSX1 to program than MSX2 or higher..... Running Naked in a Field of Flowers Running Naked in a Field of Flowers Running Naked in a Field of Flowers Running Naked in a Field of Flowers

If you create it only/mostly for yourself, that's fine. But I can't help thinking an audience might help too Wink

Yes!! You know, I never figured it, but now you say it, it's clear. Smile And now I think of it, there's two different digitized pics which are shown when booting Laydock 2 - Last Attack. One of them reminds of the "trench run" as well, and the other could be interpreted as if they're flying near the Death Star.

Looks great! And I love the theme of playing as Vader too. : )

I've played through all of X-Wing expansions and Tie-Fighter and all of it's expansions before, and I loved Tie-Fighter much more than playing as that "Rebel Scum!". I remember if you made it far enough, you could be Darth Vader's Wingman. This theme is even cooler! A true "what if" experience.

Please tell me that you'll be able to blow Han Solo and his Millennium Falcon out of the sky when he tries to save the day. That would be perfect! : 0

Looking forward to it! Are you planning on releasing this on cartridge at all?

First, I apologize for errors in translation. My English is bad and I use the Google translator.

Since this ad was published, I received many messages of encouragement and see that it has created much expectation.

I want to thank everyone's interest that you have put into this project and the support I am receiving.

It's my first development in assembler. So, I go slow and my goals on the game will not be very ambitious. I just want it to be playable and addictive. Therefore will not have more than two stages of play. When you finish the levels, the game will have more difficulty.

I want to finish the game before July because in that month I will be father and I will not have time to devote to it in a long season. The game is quite advanced and I think it will be ready on time.

I hope not to disappoint anyone and hopefully soon you enjoy my humble contribution to the world of MSX.

Thank you very much!

Hi!!!

The reason this game is made for MSX1 is because this is my first project in assembler. To make the jump to higher systems, I must first start in assembler MSX1 handle me. In addition, MSX1 I know more than the MSX2 and above. That's the main reason. Another reason is that I have a MSX 1 in my parents' house. It was my first computer and I would like to see running this first project on it.

Thanks Hannibal

Looks promising. Just a small point on language though: "The Attack to the Death Star" is incorrect English. It should be "The Attack on the Death Star". I do realise that involves changing a bit of art work...
