DJANGO translations: quadra update

Topic: Translations

French MSX translator DJANGO has quietly been releasing a couple of new run-of-the-mill translations the past couple of weeks. Consistently, his effortless effort is partial yet makes the games less puzzling than the original Japanese versions. Four games underwent prosaic surgery:

  • Daikoukai Jidai (aka Uncharted Waters), a simulation game for the MSX2 by Koei in 1990. The ROM version is concerned
  • Exterlien, a hentai game made by D.O.; a company that released a massive total of two games on MSX2, the other one undeniably in the hentai category too. As a bonus, DJANGO included erotic screenshots for the impatient to drool over
  • Shin Kugyoku Den - New Legendly Nine Gems, an interesting RPG released in 1988 by Tecno Soft for the MSX2. It's translated to French as well as English
  • Ultima IV, a classic RPG ported to MSX2 by Pony Canyon in 1987. Disk 2 remains untranslated

These translations were released as legally distributable IPS patches. Use a tool like Lunar IPS or IPS4MSX to apply the patches.

Although never tried in court the legal status of IPS patches remains questionable.

If you use openMSX then you can use the build in ips patcheroutines of openMSX itself.
Select the IPS patch using catapult or directly from the command line like:

openmsx -cart galious.rom -ips galiouspatch.ips

this also works for dsk images.

Interesting snippet: "The ROM version is concerned". Makes you wonder what the ROM is so worried about. Economic crisis? Mexican flu? The weather? The quality of the newspost? Smile
