#msx at Rizon

A few months ago, a new MSX chat channel aiming at generic MSX talk and development was opened on Rizon. During its first months, the channel already grew quite a lot of regular visitors who discovered the channel by word of mouth. Amongst the channel regulars are members of active groups such as Infinite, MRC, Near Dark and Team Bomba.

One of the exclusive features of #msx is the possibility to download beta versions of a sequel to a popular MSX game, development of which was initiated by the channel-operators (Sonic_aka_T and Wolf_). To join the #msx channel, one has to join the Rizon network with an IRC client, such as MIRC or Xchat.

I can say only one thing about this channel... looks can be very deceiving. I got politely requested by its founder to get the f*ck out of there and never return... how's that for hospitality?

I was kicked out of the channel when I joined it.

Weird, I've been there a lot, and I've never seen any kick or so whatsoever. Must have been a nick collision or something?

In BiFi's case it wasn't... I pity that, cuz it was fun seeing him around again...

So, I heard complaints that this happened sometimes at #msxdev, seems that #msx is the same, just different persons that get kicked...

Why do we have this new channel?

Personally, I'm against this telling people they're not welcome.
We'll have a chat with the founder...

I was afraid that exactly this would happen and now it did... Sad

By the way, Windows folks might prefer this version of X-Chat, which is not shareware, but completely free: http://www.silverex.info/

Reactions can be very deceiving. One needs to see the birth of this channel in perspective with the events of the time back then. The channel was already created on the historical day of the 'Latok-log' (see the forum somewhere). Initially the only visitors were ppl who were either kicked from, or otherwise didn't feel welcome/in-place at #msxdev anymore. Which is also why there was only the word of mouth in the beginning, we didn't want to be accused of 'stealing' orso, that's why we didn't do public advertising. However, even unexpected people kept coming and kept coming, and at the moment the channel is very cosy with about 16..21 regular visitors at peaks, and there's really no flaming, ranting and abnormal annoyance going on ever. Better yet, at the start of the channel a lot of ppl were really happy about this new channel, ppl who haven't really been IRC'ing for a while because of 'reasons'.

SeD_NcL: You forget to mention you were joining/leaving every 10 seconds, each time with a different nick and without saying anything, just flooding the screen with joins/leaves. I'm sure this was a 'technical difficulty' though...

Well that joining/leaving was my fault. I was testing a script on my website with multiply servers. The applet joint on Undernet #msx en also did that on Rizon. So that's reason.
But after that I joined in once and got kicked out of the channel. If the reason was the above mentioned thing, then I understand. Otherwise I don't.

As you can imagine, that was the reason indeed. It would have been nice if you had given an indication in your first reaction that that might have been the reason for your kick though...

Again, things must be seen from the perspective of this extremely heated/steamy summer. I think this was the hottest MSX-summer ever regarding hot atmospheres, mainly because of all the OneChipMSX-development/rumours/assumptions/accusions. Not even the 1cm was the source of all that, but the hatred against mrc/bazix (which btw still goes on behind the screen while we are typing!). If you keep all that in mind, combined with a number of people who play a supporting role in all that, combined with the fact that #msx has mrc/bazix regulars, combined with even more stuff the public doesn't know about, then it should not be very strange that some people get, mildly put, a tuna in their face. Not because we like fish, but because we wish to keep things in-order and peaceful. All we feared for was this peace to be ruined! And perhaps things are judged wrong then, well so be it.. the direct reason is the extreme scene-heat this summer and the channel-operators weren't responsible for that.
Sed: try hopping by one of these days if you need a longer chat about the subject. Tongue Take Poisonic for example: we weren't exactly going-by that well this summer, but at #msx he behaves. Good integration happens one by one. ^_^

and yes Snout, yes: sorry for the "mrc/bazix regulars" .. I'm not really contributing to the idea of 2 seperate organisations, am I? Wink
