Hello All,

I'm using a Sunrise CF-flash interface for some time now and I always have problems with the fat16 partition.
I use an 32mb CF card for booting and I have several larger cards (128mb, 512mb and 1GB) to store games, music, magazines etc..
All these cards work fine until the card are just over halfway full.
Some games and/or programs still work, others stop working.
It really doesn't matter what card I use, it not the amount of MB's there are on it, but just the percentage the card is used (if you know what I mean..)
I would really like to use just one card so that I don't have to swap cards, with all my stuff on just one big partition.
I use my PC (with XP) to copy stuff to the CF-cards and that always seems to work fine..

What could be the problem?Question

oh.. not to spam this forum with toppics.. how can I copy a complete directory including the derectories in there?

What is your version of MSX DOS?
Patched for FAT 16?

I'm using MSX-dos v2.20, and patch it everytime when I start up with fat16.com (without it it won't even recognize the fat16 card)

Ummm, the patch is another thing, there is a command2.com patch that give you the correct disk free when you type the command DIR.

... Use Xcopy instead of copy

I think you mean the TNi 2.44 patch ?
I tried that but it seems that I can't patch it, it sais : busy checking: INCORRECT .... this version cannot be patched

So even when I need this patch (I'll gie it a trie later this week), did anyone else had this problem before this patch?

No, there is a patch for dos 2.x which changes how it calculates the free space. This patch is NOT needed when using the 2.44 version. You need to apply this patch only ONCE! This is a different patch then the patch your using now which should always be run when using a fat16 partition. See http://www.msx.ch/sunformsx/download/idetxt/instr-fat16.html point 12.

Hmm. I can't remember if I've ever did that patch so that should be it!
I'll try and see if it works !

Thanks for all the help guys! Big smile

You have 2 options:
- the TNI 2.44 patch can be applied in this MSX DOS version:
http://www.msxarchive.nl/pub/msx/utils/dos2/msx-dos2_roms_disks/MSXDOS2E.DSK
- you can "fix" your MSX DOS using the Okei's patch (PATCHCOM.COM - http://www.ucatv.ne.jp/~kmizuo/)

Is it nessesary to patch the new version (2.44) with the patchcom.com util if you are using fat16 ?

@edoz:
No, the COMPATCH is implemented natively.

no matter how big the storage card is
you can only use the first physical half of it!

period.

if you happen to have a fat16 CF and fill it till about 45%
there wont be any trouble with it in a real msx

BUT
if you put it in the PC again
fill it till (for instance) to 75%
and THEN delete 30% from the first 45%
then the percentage of used space would be below 50%
but the files would physically (for lack of a better word) be on the second half of the CF card and be unusable in a real MSX while they can be perfectly read on a PC

i tested this extensively after i asked BIFI about it (he had come to the same conclusion)
