1. The Mollom comment box. There is no reason I should have to fill out a CAPTCHA when I'm already signed in, let alone every time I post. Moreover, it's much slower than the old HTML-form comment box.
2. Pop-over edit/quote/etc. buttons. They're a major annoyance, whether I'm simply mousing over the page (and must therefore watch three or four of them blink in and out at me) or actually trying to use them (in which case I have to hunt for the hot-spot that will bring forth the buttons I need and can't see.) Small links taking a fixed amount of space are not a great waste and a massive usability gain.
I just realized that I have been missing the 'News bits' post for the last 2 months. With all the other non important info (ebay, banner, youtube, etc) I just automaticly ignored the right side of the screen.
Is there a way to see them in the news archive?
Some combined feedback:
- Mollom: needed for anti-spam. I'd be willing to disable it for a while to see how it goes. If we get spam, it'll be activated immediately.
- Pop-over buttons: I think you're the only one with this issue, but if there are other people I'd like to know. Then I might consider making the pop-over buttons an option that you can enable or disable in your settings.
- Adding news bits to the archive: good call! I'll have a look at it, might prevent a challenge, layout-wise (how to blend it in nicely with the normal archive, since it's just a title and a link).
I would never want the old site back, for reasons such as:
* pictures accompanying newsposts
* buttons to make commenting easier
* difference in 'bigger' and 'smaller' news easily made (spotlight/tweets/etc.)
* variation with clarity
* AVATARS!!!
And Rome wasn't built in one day either, you know...

I think if you've reached the point where you're regularly punishing users on the suspicion of being spambots, you ought to rethink your approach...

That'd be wholly satisfactory. As long as I don't have to deal with it, I don't mind if other people like it.
Thx JohnHassink
I have disabled the Mollom anti-spam for now. We will leave it for a week and evaluate it. If we don't get any spam or abuse, we will leave it that way. But as soon as we see spam again, it'll be turned on again.
Grr... My code-blocks are messed up with html:
