The GFX9000 is not a replacement for an MSX2. It's an addon for MSX and MSX2, but it does not support the specific MSX2 and MSX2+ screenmodes (4 through 12). So, if you would plug it into an MSX (not 2) computer, you will only have the screenmodes 0 through 3, and the extra screenmodes of the GFX9000. And I'm not sure it would work on an MSX at all...

V9990 would work just fine on a MSX computer. You would not have memory mapper.
I see lack of memory as the main issue giving your argument some truth.

Point is that the V9990 is not V9938 compatible so it does not give an MSX1 computer MSX2 capabilities. It’s an incompatible graphics chip that operates on different I/O ports, and is supported by only few software. Maybe you already know this, but it’s worthwhile to warn about it to avoid confusion Smile.

My point is, since it's a NEW piece of hardware you are certainly NOT obligated to use MSX2 features in your program.

So in the end the only real issue for making V9990 useful in a MSX1 computer is lack of usable memory.
If you use a MEGAROM (with all these flash cartridges out there it's now an viable option) it's a problem which is somewhat "solvable".

Yes I understood perfectly Smile, but that’s not what Poltergeist was warning about.

Foody wrote that he would use Gfx9000 as an “alternative” to an FPGA-based MSX2+. The Gfx9000 is NOT an alternative however, at least not a compatible one.

I agree with the point that as it's not something which would let you play older MSX software, but nobody said it would give MSX1 systems MSX2 capabilities to begin with ...

Two ideas about this,
9990 game tends to require TurboR for what could be done on MSX1.
And I am not interested in parallax games because MSX could make a difference in hicolor games.
9938 screen 8 could make "the hicolor HAM game the Amiga never had". Because HAM has quirk.

9958 could do a lot. But 9990 is so easy coding without engine trouble. Means one could get a project done.
But there is that tendency of "even wilder requirements on the config".
TurboR and DOS2 and 9958 superimpose and whatnot.

* falls to the ground with legs on the air * Thanks hit9918 you have succeed in crashing my brain. Honestly it doesn't take much to crash my brain but you somehow managed to throw a nuclear bomb into my brain to crash it...completely over kill. Grauw, sorry if I sound slow but I completely understand what you said in previous post that it is not compatible with MSX 2 in any shape or form. Sorry if I give the impression that this would turn my MSX into MSX 2 because it wouldn't. I guess I will rephrase my words and say that this card will actually upgrade my MSX video chipset and be a custom upgrade of my MSX.

But honestly, my MSX is sitting on my desk untouched and unused because I have not managed to get my hands on the megafash card. I think I should get this as the main priority before I do any other purchases and I decided if I do not buy the new MSX 3 system then I would not buy any MSX2 computer. I will stick with my MSX1 then. Even if the MSX3 never does get released I will just stick with MSX1.
