I am still very new to the MSX system, but my kids and I are really enjoying getting to know this system and some old hardware. I have a cassette recorder coming in in a few days, and to test it out i would love to load some games on some cassettes.

Can anyone recommend some of your favorite cassette/Disk games to try out? Preferably games that were only released on cassettes/Disks?

and yes i know i probably should just load the .CAS/.DSK files and play them that way. but im trying to teach them computers (and hopefully some patience!) but i also want them to have a good time with this. any recommendations are greatly appreciated! Take care. Smile

Fruit Panic! That is developed by Ishinoseki san. It really is good type of similar to a mix between Pacman/Mappy. Actually this game is my avatar heheheh.

It's a cross between dexterity and musical memory. Very good for the brain. :)

Batman and Head Over Heels are both good (especially Head Over Heels) if you/your kids are fans of (or think you might be fans of) isometric platformers. Those are far and away my favorite cassette games of all the ones I've tried so far.

Jack the Nipper 2 and Auf Wiedersehen Monty are fun games. They're both ZX Spectrum ports I think, so they don't really show what an MSX could've done with the games, but they're fun to play. Both are exploration games, a bit metroidvania-ish.

Jack the Nipper 2 has some 'casual racism' with African cannibals, so you might want to look at the screenshots first and decide whether or not you find it appropriate to play with your kids. It's still a fun game, though.

Look for Electric Software releases, like Barnstormer and Shark Hunter!

Perhaps throw in the mix some classic Boulder Dash and Jet Set Willy.

Some spectrum conversions are nice, too, like Turmoil and Pacmania (and also Auf Wiedersehen Monty, as mentioned!).

Now that Pac Man has been mentioned, I also think your kids will love Oh Shit! - especially if they like a little bit of odd swearing!

Oh, WOW, what a hidden gem! Those psychedelics and that sound track ._,

Just wondering what were they smoking when they made that game.... :)
