presume I need to keep the normal close switch on
will give it a try now
with a multimeter on the connector SLOT #1 you can verify :
+5V between pin 41 45
+12V between pin 41 48
-12V between pin 41 50
Nothing, 0V
check the AC of secondary of transformer after disconnect it
blue is common
2 x brown 8,5V ~
purple 16V ~
Does this computer have a cartridge safety/protection switch? If so check if it works.
Check also -5v on video RAM - IC17. Should be on pin 1.
On my machine TR4 gets very hot. If this transistor doesn't get hot, then something is broken before it. Same applies to the other transistor nearby.
Also chech if joystick port pins are not bent. They can short the 5v power rail.

There's nothing, assuming I'm doing it right.
AC setting on multimeter.
Black probe in the blue hole
Red in the others
i have trying on a real HX10
the real colors are
purple - blue 18V=
grey - brown 9V=
3 solutions :
- the power cable is out of order
- the power switch is out of order
- the transformer is out of order
warning don't make the MSX on the supply 220V
for checking multimeter setting on omega symbol
disconnect the cable and check it
disconnect the switch and check on two positions
for the transformer
check primary coil between black and withe = 200 ohms
check secondary coil between purple and blue = 6 ohms
check secondary coil between grey and brown = 1 ohms
for information the slot have a micro-switch for protect insert cartrige
Switch is good - continuity when on
Both parts of cable good
primary coil - 190 ohms
purple blue 6 ohms
grey brown 0.8 ohms
getting no voltage readings anywhere and nothing gets warm at all
can you post a picture of your multimeter on AC position ?
