To frequent visitors of this site, Monsieur Django isn't a stranger, as he's renowned in the scene for his excellent game translations. This time around, Django took a deep dive into a game called "The Legend Of Shonan" and replaced all Japanese words and characters with English ones. The final results are now made available through a translation patch.

Originally titled 湘南伝説, the MSX2 game Legend Of Shonan was developed by Cross Media Soft and released in the year 1990 by publisher Victor Co. of Japan (better known as JVC). It is a strategy-simulation game with PSG and MSX-Music tunes. Distributed on 2 disks, it was never officially released outside of Japan.

The ultimate objective of the game is to defeat the "Yokoyama Union". This goal we can reached by beating the "President" at the headquarters of each map, spanning a campaign of 10 maps. Increase your income by occupying schools where you can buy Units and a "Captain", who will improve the capacity of his own unit. You can attack if you are adjacent to an enemy unit, but indirect attacks are also possible for kamikaze units. Next to that, there are motorcycles and cars for sale, to use at your headquarters and add them to your ranks.

As with many of those Rising Sun-exclusive MSX titles, The Legend Of Shonan was never translated to any other language. This is where translators like Django step in; the MSX2 game has been fully translated into English language. It has been published online, and for your convenience, extra information and statistics about this game are available on the same web page.

All this should be enough to be revving up your engines, ladies and gentlemen! Thanks mister Django, and until next time!

Very nice again Django, love your translations. I have a few questions/remarks.

- Can the game be changed so you can see the text instead of blocks on a european MSX 2, like the philips nms 8250 ?
- The game hangs at start-up on a Turbo R FS-A1GT. Same thing happens with the original japanese version.

You have to set the emulator in Japanese msx2 or in msx2 +

I know, that is how I discovered it crashes on the Turbo R. And if I want to play on my real nms 8250, the textblocks is a problem.

Thanks again Django for keeping English translations on the MSX alive! Very much appreciate your work.

Question:
Here's another Sein/Xain Soft game I've been playing on both MSX and PC88:
JOTUNN

Pretty good RPG that I've been trying to work on translating. However I'm still studying to properly learn tables, JIS, S-JIS, and everything else involved with translations. I'll get there one day. Any chance that this one might be on your future schedule?
