I've seen a few unsuccessful attempts on the forum of running the SVI-727 cartridge. Here's mine.

Has anyone tried the SVI-727 and the mode80.com utility? When I run it, the prompt is returned to the main screen. I can type commands, but nothing happens on the first command and the machine hangs on the second. The SVI-727 screen is blank with a blinking cursor in the top left.

Running on a SVI-728 and a Rookie Drive floppy emulator. MSX-DOS 1.01/1.07 (the Spectravideo system disk).

The image you show is that of the MSX, is not it. Did you plug the SVI-727's video output into a second monitor?

Of course I have. That screen is blank though. Only a cursor blinking.

In the mean time, I have managed to get the device running in some sort of manual mode. This Basic program will initialize the registers of the 6845. After that, I can put text on screen using MSXBUG from MSX Computer Magazine 16. There is 2 kilobytes of RAM from B800h-BFFFh.

10 FOR I=0 TO 15
20 READ D
30 OUT(&H78),I
40 OUT(&H79),D
50 NEXT I
60 DATA &h70,&h50,&h5b,&h09,&h1e,&h00,&h18,&h1a
70 DATA &h00,&h08,&h60,&h08,&h00,&h00,&h00,&h00

Have you tried with DOS from Spectravideo?

Yeah, I did use that DOS version. But there's nothing special about it. When I was researching DOS versions, I have found the same versions for MSXDOS.SYS and COMMAND.COM on other disks.

The only thing I don't have is the SVI-707 drive and it's diskrom. The MODE80.COM utility is bending some hooks to divert output to the second screen. I think it only works with SVI's diskrom. Will need to do a bit more research on that. Too bad the 727 isn't emulated in openMSX and I don't have the file for blueMSX.

On the other hand, I have confirmed how the device works. Will add that info to the Wiki page.
