Hi, I've got this piece of brazilian hardware but never used it because I haven't an external drive.

Can't find info about it so I don't know for sure what kind of drive can handle.

You can use any 3 1/2 drive unit for PC. Just make sure to use a straight flat cable (with no inversions on the cable) or to use a drive that has a jumper to change between DS1 (PC Default) to DS0 (MSX mode).

Thanks a lot Dantyr, I'll be able to test it when I have time for it. The cartridge has a flat cable attached but it have some inversion done. Is there any danger or possible problems if I test it with a NMS8245? It doesn't have a floppy drive but I don't know if internal disk controller can be a problem for use the cartridge.

No problem at all. All you need is to follow the bellow procedure (sorry, but it's in portuguese):

I'm spanish, it's not difficult for me to understand almost completly a text in portuguese :-)

I've tested the interface and it seems to work OK, no mods have been needed in the PC floppy drive. Just plug the power and flat cables to it. Seems to be a good option for MSX1 machines as they doesn't have an internal controller and it's hard to find a non-expensive original MSX external drive with controller (I've seen people asking for 150€ for a single sided one)

Useful hardware, maybe I'll keep it if I can recover an old and broken MSX1 that I have.

Thanks again
Smile

Those disk interfaces were widelly used here in Brazil on the "Golden MSX Age" and we have several manufacturers. Nowadays with the introduction of IDE and MMC/SD interfaces, they are almost forgotten. Also, we have available a new IDE interface cart that already has 512Kb of internal mapper, so it can be used on MSX1 machines too. I have one and works like a charm on my MSX1.
