Konami released software with different codes than RC... The word processor software has JE-700 (which contains JE-701, the word processor unit, and JE-702, the external Kanji font ROM). This one might as well be in that similar range, if it was actually released that is.
I guess RC-codes were used for the entertainment titles and they used other codes for the more educational or professional titles. This looks like a typing course which isn't really an entertainment title.
This typing course does not look too promising... I mean... look Pic9 again.
This cardridge actually had two totally different programs. That Keyboard master was really just a typing cource, but that speach synthetizer was much more interesting. (at least we think, it was speach syntethizer) After messing around with the ROM for a while we found out, that this program worked with _VOICE( "String" ) command.
This device had a custom sound chip (no SCC) that had also own 16KB ROM. Too bad the hardware was not feeling too well. After some time, we managed to get some sort of sound out of it, but we stopped hardware experiments after stt almost killed the sound chip by experimenting too much with screwdriver.
Now this prototype is anyway dumped to ROM image and we managed to dump also the custom sound ROM by placing it inside Phillips MSX-AUDIO for a while. I hope, that stt will manage to solve the hardware issues so that we can see the prototype in full action next time.
I must say it's always pleasure to get messing around with stt hardware. There is always something new to learn!
why didn't they release magical treeboat spelling checker instead of space manbow?
I saw stt's proto earlier at the Pelikonepeijoonit party and i must say that it has had more than its share of suffering. It never works the first time and then Saku pics up the screwdriver or just presses the components quite hard so the whole thing bends and makes quite scary sounds.
why didn't they release magical treeboat spelling checker instead of space manbow?
Hmm... Even though I wouldn't have minded Konami releasing Spelling Bee and Action Boat (and Konami's Pinball and Break Shot), but releasing them in stead of Space Manbow would be a bit overkill, don't you think?
I thought I played this thingie but then named Turboat.
and Castlevania 2 on NES is quite bad.... on the contrary, 3 is very good and does use a special soundchip in the Japanese version.
Castlevania 3 is great, and its japanese soundtrack is simply amazing!!
- use of the roman numeral stones in Castlevania IV: what's the logic behind that?
Those stones allow you to throw more than one secondary weapon (depending on the roman number). They appear not only on CV4, but in all NES and SNES CV's except from CV2, if I'm not wrong.
nonono let me get this straight bifi...spelling and driving a speedboat is WAY nicer then doing some multiparallax SCC visually stunning
nerve wrecking funpacked action blastorama like space manbow
but that speach synthetizer was much more interesting. (at least we think, it was speach syntethizer) After messing around with the ROM for a while we found out, that this program worked with _VOICE( "String" ) command. After getting the rom images (and one of the MSX emulator developers to implement the VLM5030 chip it uses) I decided to dive into it with a little more detail. The _VOICE command handler could've actually been done in less than 1 disk sector.
Also the ROM for the VLM5030 only contains the data for the things used. Therefore the _VOICE command is limited to just spelling the string you feed it. The few words spoken in the game are just pre-programmed. More interesting is conntecting RAM to it and program the thing on the fly.
So you have already heard it speaking?
Wow, that was fast! Well done, I'll give you that extra ROM byte as gift.
