Brazilian hardware developer Opotech has announced an all-in-one cartridge that provides (micro)SD, ethernet and RS232 functionality. The design of the hardware has recently been finalized and all source code, software and firmware has been made available right here. The cartridges, of which a prototype can be seen in action over here, provides support for FAT16 partitions of maximum 2GB, which should be sufficient for most MSX users needs.

Will the Ethernet part be compatible with ObsoNet? More precisely, is it compatible with the TCP/IP UNAPI specification v1.0?
I'm also curious about the price, as it is a very small card with everything we should need! Big smile Very interesting...

Yeah, keep us updated! My old SD reader is on the verge of dying. Any idea if this could work with an MSX1?

I hope that MSX-DOS 2 is included like the Sunrise IDE interface has.

Seems like a very interesting all-in-one cartridge indeed. Although I'm not too sure about using microSD. I'd rather see ordinary SD/MMC cards, as they are most compatible with all the other hardware I have.

Now I know you can use a converter, but that just feels like a bit of unnecessary extra hassle. I also spotted a picture of the cartridge with an ordinary SD slot, but the construction seemed extremely fragile to me. Still, an almost perfect all-in-one cartridge will do Smile

I cant really figure out if this is going to be for sale or a solo private project.

There is not much information in the project page yet, but based on the little information available, for the Ethernet part it seems that:

  • The card's firmware implements already a TCP/IP stack
  • Everything is managed via I/O ports
  • There is no dedicated ROM (for Ethernet at least)

So it seems that a RAM based TCP/IP UNAPI implementation (which would be installed as a TSR, like InterNestor Lite) could be developed.

Then, what amount of memory can use the theoretical TSR?
Can we have sufficient memory to any multiplayer game?
