LOADROM Loads Nothing

Title says it all.

I can't get LOADROM to load anything on my MSX1. I've tried loading roms two ways: 1) Via Sofarun. It states "Type Mismatch in 0" and I have to restart my computer. 2) Via MSX dos command prompt Loadrom.com ***.rom. It puts up the little bit of information about Loadrom..."Loadrom by trunks & vic..." and then does nothing else. Returns me to command prompt.

My MSX is a Yamaha CX5m and I have an SD-512 cart.

No need to type the .com extension in MSX-DOS.
loadrom game.rom
will be ok.

1) Do you have some examples of games you tried to load that failed?

2) Have you tried ExecROM?

3) What version of MSX-DOS (or Nextor) are you using?

Thanks for the responses. I'm new to MSX so, forgive me.

Hamlet - Thanks, I know. For some reason, I felt like being extra verbose.

Louthrax - I have tried SofaROM, I even commented in the thread. I've gotten a few things to load from it and it tries to load everything I throw at it. Thank you for keeping up work on it. Considering the alternatives don't seem to be developed anymore...its probably where I'll be at on a longer term basis.

sd_snatcher - Thanks. As far as I can tell, Loadrom just isn't working right...

1) Nothing loads with LOADROM. As far as I can tell, the program dies/closes without attempting to run the ROM. For example, I tried to load Arkanoid with it and it won't even load something that small. I just tried RC-743, Penguin Adventure, and I get the exact same result as Arkanoid. When I do it from the Nextor command prompt, it says:

"Reading Files." Then blanks screen and displays the Loadrom.com info...
"LoadRom.com v1.97 by Trunks & Vic...[etc]."
Then it goes back to the command prompt.

When in SofaRun, it uses something else for smaller games (execrom?), but when I try to use a 128k ROM from Sofarun, it attempts it with LOADROM and always returns the "Type Mismatch in 0" error

I would note that Louthrax's SofaROM runs several games for me (like Penguin Adventure, for example).

2. I have tried ExecROM. It loaded Arkanoid with no trouble. I can't use my SD-512 as Megaram (not enough RAM in MSX), so ExecROM isn't an option for bigger things...but it tries. For Example, if I try to load a 128k game, such as Penguin Adventure, it displays a message saying that I don't have enough MegaRam space.

4. Decompressed. When using SofaRun, I let its decompress features unzip, but I've also tried decompressed roms from there. Same result. When trying from a command prompt, I've used decompressed roms (ie: Arkanoid.rom).

Is there any sort of log file or verbose mode for LoadROM that might shed some light?

CX5M = 32k RAM , are you sure you have a good configuration with this MSX1 with the SD-512 cart

I settled up my CX5M and get the same problems as you with a IDE/CF interface and a MMM in second slot (loadrom and execrom). But that´s of course a different set up as yours. MFRSD512 works like charm but thats another set up.

That's my vague suspicion, but I'm no expert.

The SD-512 has 512k RAM and a memory mapper, so, RAM galore. However I've been warned that because the 32k is on Slot 0 there may be some compatibility issues in that some software will just assume that the first RAM that it can find is it.

Louthrax's shiny, new SofaROM is able to load large (128k+) games, though. Perhaps LoadROM isn't programmed to look for RAM where mine happens to be, while SofaROM is.

That said, I can't get LoadROM to load anything. Seems that it should at least be able to load stuff that ExexcROM can (ie: 32K or less). However, as I write this, I realize that ExecROM may be a bit smarter and/or LoadROM might have a bigger memory usage. Thus, maybe I should be trying a very small ROM with LoadROM and seeing what it does. Are there 8k MSX ROMS?

Hamlet - I appreciate the input.

To be clear, when you use the MFRSD512, are you using LoadROM to load games into system RAM or are you using the flash ROM?

Sure there are 8kB ROM's.

Try one of these early Konami's:
- Computer Billiards
- Sparkie
- Juno First
