I'm new to MSX so be gentle!
I've got a Toshiba MSX HX-10 but no manual(s). I've hunted high and low for a PDF manual but to no avail.
I found a SONY HB-10B which looks identical and a Service Manual PDF.
Anyone know if the 2 MSX machines are the same?
If not has anyone got spare manuals for Toshiba HX-10 or point me to any PDFs please

Is it possible to modify an old USB IBM external 3.5" disk drive to work with my Toshiba HX-10 please?
Since my last post my Toshiba is up and running with a working cassette drive, an old Bush from my attic!
Also if I can't get a dd to work, meaning I'd have to type programs in by hand, is there anywhere where MSX programs are stored as .WAV files as well as .BAS files so I can record the programs to cassette by 'playing' the .WAV files.
I've managed to do this quite easily on a Sharp 1251 with its attached PC-125 base unit with cassette and printer?

No, that is not possible. Your machine requires a disk rom. What you need is a mass storage device. Where you can load software on it or mount dsk images. I would suggest you to go for a GR8NET device. Or to upgrade to a MSX 2 machine. But if this machine fits for you maybe the GR8NET device or something like this is what you need.

And if you want to use tape images... Instead of using real tape you can use a PC or Android phone.

You need to connect the line-out or headphone connection of a PC or Android phone to your MSX Data Recorder port. Then you can use a program such as http://www.finnov.net/~wierzbowsky/caslink2.htm or https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=br.com.dod.msx...

Thanks very much - now I know what I'll be doing all week!
Final questions - Are there any Application MSX programs available to download such as early database, word processor, spreadsheet etc.
- where can I find actual Basic or Assembly MSX listings?
- what do I have to do to put MSXDOS onto my Toshiba or doesn't it run on MSX1?

Welcome Leviset!
Of course there are text editors to download, I remember this posting.
But at first you will need a storage device. I'm sure, there are plenty of games on .cas or even .wav format. That's fun for one evening, but not if you want to get deeper.
One possibility is to buy a disk drive. They should not be to expensive, try to post a "want to buy" here in the mrc. It will come with a disk controller cartridge and either a 360 or 720k drive. With both and a MSX_DOS system disk, you will be able to run MSX DOS, load and save the easy way and do it, like we all did 20 years ago. For a bit more bucks you should get a mega flash rom cartridge. There are several, the MFRSCC with or without SD card support, the Carnivore2 and a lot of older stuff. This will save your day. Even on MSX1, it will ease your MSX experience.
There are topics in the forum here, where members smarter than me are explaining the pros and cons of such a device. Just use the search function.

MSX-DOS 1 runs on any MSX with 64K RAM, which the HX-10 has. You need a diskdrive though, of course.
