Ran into this interesting video on YouTube which gives us a brief look at the Japanese Game Preservation Society's laboratory in Tokyo, as guided by Joseph Redon. The Japanese Game Preservation Society works to preserve Japan's software, which, like software from all over the globe, was initially distributed on rather fragile medium.

There's quite a nice collection to be seen in the video, though imho the interview itself is kinda lacking, and the way some of the hardware is lying around, makes me kinda cringe... But, there's some MSX stuff to be seen in there too!

There was a really great NHK World special documentary on the Japanese Game Preservation Society a few months ago, too. They're doing really good work!

Very interesting. But they don't seem to publish anything. Not even the covers or manuals of the games even though they scan it. So what is the point if they 'preserve' it, but then not make it available?

Welcome to copyrights, which expire at the least only 70 years after publication.

IIRC, they do show a lot of the games they preserve at various events. But their primary goal is just to create a controlled copy of the game so that it isn't lost to time.

At the very least I think they could publish an overview of what they have preserved. They must keep track of it somehow.

The goal is not the preservation of games, but the research, development and spreading of preservation techniques and methods of electronic games, See here: https://www.gamepres.org/en/overview/

See for example this post: https://www.gamepres.org/en/2017/05/18/galacticwars1/

Kinda irrelevant to the thread, but on their blog I found an article titled Japonism of the 21st Century – Eroge is Culture too! (Part Two) which mentions the game Do Dutch Wives Dream of Electric Eels?, which made me laugh. TIL that apparently a 'Dutch wife' is Japanese slang for a sex doll :RNFF: LOL!

Have heard them few years ago. They opened section of their game archive to the public (in Japan), including some MIA MSX titles.
Here is the list: https://www.gamepres.org/overview/archive-list/
If someone here is living/going to Japan has interested in it maybe can submit the application to them...
P.S according to their photo they even preserved the game Gaia which can consider to be the rarest MSX game...

Here's the PDF file with only the MSX preserved games and applications: http://www.msxblue.com/temp2/msx.pdf

(the Japanese names are lost in the PDF conversion)
