Max, I think you nailed it. You need to go to X,Y: 9,9 in the desert to find the first dungeon. I played up through the first couple battles in that dungeon on both disks (original and patched) and besides the patched version loading faster they play identical. I don't see any graphical artifacts, either -- the interface looks goofy at first glance, but if you look closer you won't find any out-of-place pixels (I didn't see any in any of the cut scene graphics either).
Of note, the game only uses PSG sound, and doesn't use Kanji ROM. I booted it without anything plugged in to my stock F1-XDmk2 and it ran exactly the same - pretty sure they targeted stock MSX2s.
Thanks a ton!
I changed the 33 to 32 on disk A, but it's still not running. It crashes differently now, though.
Oh, EDIT: it does run with turboR
Hmm, but on Generation MSX it is started to be an MSX2 game... does it really require turboR?

Yes, I agree. Looks like game is working good. I looked up other versions of the game
and indeed same screen is normal. And graphic just not as good as PC98.
Technically the game need Kanji ROM since boot sector uses it to print error messages.
But those not important. The rest of the game uses its own kanji font.
So it can be played on any MSX2 or better and that is good.
Oh, indeed, it runs fine on a Sony HB-F1XD. I guess it needs a Japanese MSX2 to run.

I also was not able to run game after patching 33h to 32h on Turbo R. I think it have to be done
on original disks and re-dumped so the CRC is correct. But this is my guess since I don't know
how exactly DMK work.
How did you patch it?
I did it as if I was working on a real MSX... And that worked. I love DiskView 2...!

I used HEX editor on Windows. And then ran on OpenMSX. Just to clarify we are talking about patching DMK files?
I re-dumped the original to DMK with the fixed boot sector.
I don't wanna do any more dumps unless necessary because I'm worried about degradation at this point.

Thank you! Now it works like a dream even on Turbo R!!! It means that changing code in PDI file was not enough, you need a correct DMK file as well.
@ Manuel: you got mail :)
If you start game from DISK B or C it will ask to insert DISK A and restart...
I just got to a disk 2 area and using a cloned disk from the normal dsk dump worked fine. Looks like there's only protection on disk 1.
