Looking at the archive link for MCM I recall that sadly, they mixed up the screenshots of number one and two, which was a bit silly :-D
Yeah, I also noticed (again, probably)
Hi Cas,
Wammes here, editor in chief of MCM back then. Manuel brought this thread to my attention. And even after over thirty years I am still unhappy about how that contest went down. The details are somewhat foggy after all that time, but what it boils down to is that Eurosoft, official sponsor, went bankrupt. And when that happens, a curator steps in. He or she will in most cases just try to maximise the value of the assets on the property. Running projects are killed without any heed of deals and contracts. As I've discoverd later - not by going broke myself - is that often all assets will be used to pay the curator. A strange and wonderfull occupation, to my mind.
In this particular case there were some MSX computers in Eurosofts offices as well, my personal property that I loaned to Eurosoft because they were very short on cash at last. I lost those machines, even written statements as to ownership were neglected. The curator even had the gall to offer me to buy back my own property.
So, as far as I remember, that's the story. Shit happens. But I am sorry about that shit. Things should have ended in an other way.
Grtz, Wammes
Hi Wammes,
Thanks a lot for recalling this story, and I'm very sorry you lost some of your own stuff in the process!
From my end, things turned out fine overall I guess -- luckily it didn't stop me from creating more games. I guess I was halfway into ARC before I started to realize something funny was going on.
Thanks also for all your effort for MCM over the years, I read a lot of them!
As for the original topic: it looks like in 2018 I made DMK images of Magnar, including a scan of the manual.
I tried to run the game, but it seems to hang up when loading after switching to disk 2 after selecting the first mission...
Still, if this is useful to someone, please let me know.
EDIT: oops, looks like I got these DMK's and scans from Meits. I do own the game myself as well.
Hi Cas,
Glad you feel that way. It's always a major bummer when something like this happens, when a partner/sponsor does not make true it's promises. Wether bankrupt or just unreliable does not really matter, as a magazine you have been tricked into relaying those commitments to your readers. Luckily it only happened twice with MCM - HSH being the other fuck-up - and I did learn then to make sure commitments could not be shirked too easily. And most contests went quite well, before and after these two disasters.
And I'm always glad to get praise for the old MCM. It was the first mag I ever blundered into - and the most satisfying thing I ever made! We had tons of fun ourselves, most of the time.
Grtz, WW
Hai Cas, is the e-mailaddress in you profile still current? I need to be in contact, but not sure if the address is valid.
@Ro: you've got mail to the one in your profile.

Today I decided give a try with BLADE LORDS on my REAL SONY HB-F1XDJ with 256KB RAM Internally upgraded but it's get frozen just before the main title show up. Any clues why this game doesn't work on Sony MSX2+ Machine?
it was also tested using OpenMSX 0.16 (Sony MSX2+ HB-F1XDJ Stock Model and Upgraded 256KB RAM)
and other question this time about Black Cyclon is little bit annoying when it ask to switch disk after the main title screen and when your game is over. Any possibility to install this game to HDD/CF?
