Hi guys, I'm looking for a schematic of said cable. Trying to connect my Japanese FS-A1 with my Trinitron CRT which has RGB SCART. I can't solder and have found a local guy who makes cables, but he doesn't know anything about microcomputers (or apparently even electronics) and needs very exact instructions.

I sent him the DIN 45326 write up from this wiki page, but now he's asking me something about "all masses are bridged, and what about casing?" (rough translation from Polish) and I have no clue what that might mean. Thought maybe schematic would be clearer, or maybe somebody has/could take a photo of this cable's socket's insides?

The DIN8 has 1 ground (aka mass) connection. SCART has many and you don’t need to connect all of them. It’s probably good to connect R,G,B and audio ground as well as the shield aka case and they can all be bridged or interconnected to the same pin on the DIN8.

Grounds are all connected to each other in TV except for unused signals. Shield doesn't have to be connected to the ground. It is there just to protect from external interference. You can also replace the shield by a suitable ferrite.

Thank you for the replies. Could you try to distill it into something simpler though, as I just need to pass on a very simple instruction? Eg is saying "Shield doesn't have to be connected to the ground" enough, do you think?

Also, this is the plug he says he'll use, called WM845 around here. Does it look like the one I'm after?

Shielded cables use the Faraday cage effect to block external electromagnetic waves. So it not necessary to connect it to the ground.
And generaly it's not necessary to link all ground in the cable because it is already connected in the TV or monitor. Just put the ground for one of the signals used and that should be enough. Connect all the masses in the cable only if necessary therefore. It's not complicated.

I'm sure it's not complicated - for somebody who knows what they are doing. But this is a specific situation where one clueless person (me) tries to pass on translated information to somebody who can only follow diagrams/schematics, and so it's all a bit messy.

Anyway, thanks I will try to tell him not to connect the shield and see what happens. I could've just ordered this cable from Spain, but these days you have to wait 1-2 months for their deliveries and I'd rather take a gamble with my guy.

So that cable eventually got made. Unfortunately it does not work, I only get a single white line on the screen.

The guys says he used these pinouts:

DIN - Scart
1 - ground
2 - 6
3 - 8
4 - 20
5 - 16
6 - 15
7 - 11
8 - 7

So this is the same as in the table from the Wiki: url=https://www.msx.org/wiki/RGB_(8-pin_DIN_45326)#Mitsubishi_.28Japan.29.2C_National.2FPanasonic_.28except_the_FS-A1WSX.29.2C_Sakhr.2C_Sony_and_Yamaha_computers_.2B_Sanyo_MSX2.2F2.2B_computers].
It says it comes from official datapack, but could that perhaps mean official for Japan, and they have a slightly different SCART?

This page https://www.faq.msxnet.org/connector.html (see "SCART connector" section) has some "extra remarks" but I'm not sure if they apply in my case.

Any ideas as to what could be wrong here would be appreciated.

A single horizontal white line?
Does the TV work with other devices or can you see the OSD?

Yes, horizontal. The TV (Trinitron CRT) works fine with a host of other micros/consoles.

And those other micros use the same SCART socket in RGB mode?
Besides the line, do you get audio (beep @ boot, keyboard click) when you connect your MSX?
