I'm working on a game.

This playable demo is finished for 50% percent.

It only works properly on a Turbo R with R800 on, or an emulator set to 4x normal speed.
The eventual game should work on any MSX 2 with double sided disk drive.

In the playable demo, you will encounter 3 types of enemies:

(1) Slimes that come from corpses
(2) Slimes that walk loose
(3) Zombies

Only the first category is beatable, as the other two aren't finished yet... Shocked!

Anyway, if you want to hear some new Moonblaster 1.4 musics, this demo contains a separate player for some musics from the game.
For the music demo, press [4] at the menu.

As this demo is made for R800, the cursor of the (simple) music demo might go too slow.
To change that, simply CRTL+STOP (it's BASIC), and change value 511 in the lines 1280 and 1290 to a lower number. Smile

In time there will be an update, hope you'll enjoy the music anyway...

Greetings,

John

Wow, it already looks pretty promising, and sounds even better! Of course, I posted about it... I hope you can make things work on an ordinary MSX2 in the future. Keep us posted on the project and, if you need a place to host the demo-game, downloads@msx.org is the place to be :P Cheers dude!

Thanks for the tips, and for posting it, Snout. Smile If you would need more info on this, just email me.

I drew the graphics and did the programming myself until now, but recently it looks like it that much more talented people will help me with that, so it can only get better. Wink

I'll keep you all informed! Cheers back!

By the way, the game probably will be called "Soulgrinder - Sun of Guile".

Coolie! I think it's quite cool... seems to me like 'Alien Breed - Tower Assault' from the Amiga et al. Really cool game too Wink

But I can't seem to hit my enemies yet... Plus, the music sounds distorted in openMSX...

Really, great effort, dude! Smile

I don't know that Amiga game, interesting, I will look for it!

How can it be the music sounds distorted, that shouldn't be...
I never used or seen openMSX, I only tested it in NLMSX and it works o.k., only the first song "Prologue.mbm" seems to be distorted sometimes...
In that case, an emulator restart, or load a song with drums (that's another problem) does the job, but I simply use the basic.bin file...

Regarding the enemies, most enemies "don't know they can be hit" because of uncompleted programming. Wink

Only the slimes that "bulge" from the corpses have completed "artificial intelligence", so those will die if you hit them, you can see they lose HP because you see a lifeline in the [information] section, at the bottom of the screen.

I made the fighting hard on purpose, you should hit the enemies directly, so, not like in Ys or something, but really stand in front of them (like in an Eggerland puzzle Smile) and hit them.

Thanks for the feedback!

I will download openMSX and investigate this... (but I'm far from being an emulation expert, or a technician for that matter Smile)

Very nice music! Smile

You once showed me a working version of this game before; it still looks promising Wink. I hope you will succeed in speeding up the game a little. When I tried to play it on BlueMSX in R800 mode (as the disk image is DOS 1 formatted, it doesn't automatically boot in R800 mode btw), the prologue didn't start and the music in the game didn't play properly, so I had to retry in Z80 mode, which did the job, but it was actually (like you already stated) too slow to play it properly.

One thing though: please try to get rid of the standard MSX fontset Wink.

Ah, when you say it, I know I'm still doing something right. Wink

This emulation thing is starting to worry me, because it works o.k. in NLMSX!
I haven't got the slightest notion of how to get it working in any emulator.
However, there's some good news: Jan Wilmans already offered to take up some (machine language) programming, so, like I said, people who actually can draw and program will do that stuff, so I, mere music maker and game designer, can focus on the things I actually can do to my extent. Smile

One thing though: please try to get rid of the standard MSX fontset Wink.
Oh yeah, working on that, don't worry! Smile

Anyway, everyone who, in any way, would like to help in realising this game, program/graphics/music wise, is welcome to do so! And this ofcourse includes you too, Rikusu-san.
Care about makin' some BGM's? Wink Tongue

Wheeeheee! I knew you missed my grand compositions! Tongue

But ehrm, maybe we should get together some time soon, get ourselves enough beer to survive the night and see if I can contribute to the game in any way Wink

Nice to read that you inspired Jan to do some Z80 programming again btw Wink

NLMSX is not the standard for emulation accuracy. For that you'd probably need openMSX or blueMSX. Although in case of the sound chips I don't know in the required delays are implemented.

I haven't got the slightest notion of how to get it working in any emulator.

Don't. Get it working on the real deal. But if you do develop on an emulator, take one that is extremely accurate. It'll save you a lot of trouble when moving to real machines. And even then, there'll still be plenty left if you live on the edge.
