Hello, this is a RC767 Cartidge PCB view, yes, the Metal Gear 2 (Solid Snake) game, I opened the cartridge without any damage to konami case and original sticker, i want to add extra game versions (spanish, english, maybe Turbo Fix Version), with some ROM or FLASH IC´s, without extract original japanese ROM, the idea is install a logic circuit that allow change different game versions after Press RESET on the machine, each press of RESET should allow load a different game version instaled in new ROM´s. If no RESET is press the first game version that should load will be the original, i´m researching about the circuit, maybe this mod it was published in the past. I know the Solid Snake is 4Mbit ROM, then, if i´m right i´ll need 27C040 ROMS (4Mbit 512K), better will be use AT27C040 (512L PLCC version, more smaller), to use FLASH i think i´ll need AM29F040 (also PLCC version), for now i´m searching info how conect ROM or FLASH, i think ROM will be more easy. It´s only a project in mind for now, anyways any help will be wellcome. Wink
Another question in mind is to know if 2Mbit ROM pinout is the same for 4Mbit ROM pinout, i found only 2Mbit ROM pinout here:

http://bifi.msxnet.org/msxnet/tech/pinouts.txt

Apart from this, if you see the pcb cartidge, you´ll see like there is empty space to allow a 28 PIN EPROM and maybe any 14 PIN logic circuit to handle it, i´m wondering if anyone have information about Konami´s real purpose to build a pcb that way, a free space for logic device and free space for eprom or another IC. Maybe there is any special function that also could be added to this cartidge, i dont Know.

Looking the pictures I think that Konami thought that they can use this same PCB for future games that need some extra space by placing 27C256 or 27C512 to eprom socket, 74LS00 to IC socket and drilling few extra holes... I don't know... At least they didn't produce any bigger game in the end.

@Dhampird

That cartridge is priceless!! You already have a MegaFlashROM SCC+ for that kind of thing, don't you? There you can load as many versions of MG2 as you want. Smile

Hello NYYRIKKI and sd_snatcher, thanks for replies, i know the game is like a treasure, for me and for a lot of people, i take the decision to open it because i get the cartidge very cheap, my idea was improve the cart to install new rom versions on it, keeping it JAP Rom also, i also have Megaflashrom SCC+ and others, but the idea to have some extra versions in the original cartidge and also build maybe other features on it...I found it interesting!. I know that the value of the cart if will be modified will lost, but this cart will remains in my collection, will never be sold, but like you said you´re right, maybe modify this special Konami game would be a madness! because if all people will do the same, the original cartidge piece will lost in time, i know that . Tell that i´m just looking for a complete Solid Snake, with box, manual, inside cover, etc, to keep Untouched, and i understand that its value could be among 200€, I understand the msx games value, and other systems, and your answers make a lot of sense for me. For now, like i said, the cartidge konami case is in perfect state, like the sticker, Perfect!. Will be better that I´ll try with another pending important mods in HB-F700S (memory mapper, bios,etc). At least, those Solid Snake PCB images be here as a curiosity, i´ll close again the jewel and place sticker with heat to its original state.
Regards.

Well... after all... the cartridge is yours and you can decide what you do with it. While I can be identified as an collector, I would also encourage you to do whatever you dream to do with it. While the value of cart might be high, it's exactly not very rare after all. There are several rarer thingies in MSX-world than just a normal RC767.

Have a luck with your plans!

Hello. For me It's a good project. You have now an exclusively fan-made hardware. Nobody one owns it.

Show us it, if you can, inside cartridge case and a recorded video about how it works in MSX2

very nice,
I see some schematics in the video, do you have a link to them ?
I would like to know how you made this work.
Again very nice.
