Some time ago we had discussion here that we still lack people from Japan, the motherland of MSX (great thanks to those Japanese people who are interested in MSX and participate in MRC). I did some research, and found the person in Japan who, in my understanding, was the admin of MSX Japan group on the internet, have some MSX web sites and respective twitter account. I tried to contact him at the end of the March 2017 through Facebook, today he replied literally saying

Quote:

Hi, I have left it. I am sorry, but I have no plan to do anything.

When I asked him for other contacts which he may still know he said it again and blocked me Shocked!
I am very sad about it.

Very sad indeed - I'm from England, but I live in Japan now, and I would be interested to meet/speak/type to japanese MSX fans, but I can't say I've really come across any

I see the MSX mentioned on twitter occasionally, but that's about it, can't really find anything

Such a shame 残念でした!

You are not the only one who tried it. As you experienced it's not easy to get some news from Japan or stablish a fluent communication with someone. The language would be the main barrier in my opinion or simply they don't care about the foreign MSX scene. Anyway, I admit I've been able to contact with very nice and kind persons when needed. Fortunately there are some great Japanese users here.

It is about keeping MSX alive building bridges and receiving feedback from each other, that's all. MSX in Japan is today a mystery, I hope someone could help us about what's going on...

I talk regurlarly with Takamichi, in English, and no problems.
But as Takamichi sais, Japanese MSX scene is not like the West scene where you have a few center websites and more or less organized communities.
The most representative site was Gigamix On Line but it seems frozen since years.
So Japanese are acting as individuals not as a community.

Nothing personal in the reaction here I guess, it's just that the language & culture barrier that is hard to break with Japan... I made some attempts in the direction of Japan like yours in the past, which also did not work. Something that could be compared to Japanese people not wanting to sell / trade things on Yahoo with foreign countries.

But I'm still super-interested to have Japanese reactions, on MRC or even somewhere else... Maybe we need to learn the codes for that. Or simply learn Japanese Smile Given the quality of Google-translate in the Japanese to English direction, I would not dare to use that tool to approach Japanese people!

EDIT: Just realized my post is a bit redundant to PAC previous post...

IMHO a fragmented community is not the best way for the health of MSX anywhere...

Takamichi is a great guy. It's very nice to talk with him. You should try to contact him there in Japan, keith56.

Another guy who's very nice is Jazzin, the author of NekoLauncher.

Tip: maybe you haven't noticed, but this thread is active with some Japanese users writing there (just check the profiles). Why don't you try to break the ice and introduce yourself to them?

Most of Japanese MSX communities had been destroyed and also there is no prospect of growing in the future.
It has a complex historical background which is hard to solve.

Can you explain please? Why they were destroyed? What was the reason? And why do you think there could be no growth and interest in MSX in Japan? What is this historical background? (someone ordered people not to like MSX, or not to meet to play MSX games?)
