The music is much better than the old video posted ~1 year ago, but why the SFX are so different (compared to the PCB)?

The music in the first video is the original arcade music. Neotron, Makoto and SFG-05 have sound chips compatible with the FM sound chip in the arcade. Grauw made a player that plays the same music. The SFX sounds through PSG always, so they are not equal.

I noticed there are a few pixel missing at the bottom of the screen, Is the vertical resolution smaller that the original PCB?

I don't know which is the arcade resolution. V9990 P1 mode has 256x212px, the one I'm using.

Maybe it's an emulator problem, but the Z80 video posted above seem to have less colors in the backgrounds, am I wrong?

R800 version uses 2 background layers: 31 colors. I had to reduce colors from the original as it had more than 64 colors, but not so many colors as to show any difference.
Z80 version uses only 1 background layer: 16 colors. The video shows this version, and the second stage has a lot of colors, so the change is very visible.

Are the tricks/bugs (time stop trick, black frog) working in this version like in the arcade?

I know the time stop trick, but not the black from trick. The bugs are not implemented.

Thanks for the explanations.
Care to explain a bit further how the original audio is mapped in your port?

The PCB has 2 * YM2203 (total = 6 FM channels and 6 PSG), I supposed that Neotron/Makoto/SFG take care of the 6 FM channels (Music ?), but what about the 6 PSG? Reduced to 3 channels for the internal PSG?
And the extra SCC is there to play the FM when no additional FM cart is used?

Grauw has made the replayer and extracted and adapted the FM music data. He knows better how it works.

The original music for this version was made for SCC with trilotracker. It uses 5 channels SCC for music and 3 channels PSG with support music, expendable.
Up to 3 sound effects can be played at the same time, although limited by the only available noise channel.

If one of those FM chips are found, the SCC music is replaced by the FM music, but the SFX are still played by the PSG (or Neotron's SSG).

Maybe I don't get it right, correct me If I'm wrong:
The game uses v9990 for gfx and scc for music/sfx (provided in the cartridge itself).
So from the machine running it, are used only the Z80 and some RAM. Am I right?
So my question is: the game will run on msx1+v9990? If not, why? Are there some pictures on v9938 screen modes? And in that case, is it possible to remove them and so have a msx1 version?

Only the internal VDP is not used.
As the game has been adapted to run with an standard Z80 @ 3,58Mhz with 16KB, almost any MSX (1,2,2+,TurboR) with V9990 can run the game.
MSXVR is an special case as it has V9990 internally implemented, although it can run also with an external V9990.

The music of Ghosts ’n Goblins only uses the FM channels. I presume the SSG channels are for sfx.

"special" "internal", I hope you just meant video 9000 initialization, I hope there is not something new and incompatible.

With special I mean that MSXVR has V9990 emulated, so with an standard MSXVR, the game works.

The game has been tested in a REAL MSXVR and it works fine. There were only a few glitches and were corrected.
