In Priori, Alex Alves (aka: Darius Strauss Geist) released many playable demos of smooth scrolling on MSX1, Youtube link above suggests he's working on a game called Z-Zone but considering the number of other similar demos that he created, it would be surprising if these demos resulted in a full game someday. You should ask him.
IMHO, this is the kind of development that could be fostered if MSXdev supported the MSX2 or higher.
But without that, we see plenty of interesting MSX2 and MSX2+ concepts that never make into games because, once the concept is proven, the interest is lost.
