There are different variations of the SN76489 which amongst others have differrent noise patterns. Franky uses the Sega VDP whilst MMM uses the original SN76489. Also the treatment of period 0 values differs.

I don't have any experience with real-life ColecoVision or MMM; I implemented everything using only tech docs. If you can point to some clear examples of dissimilarity, I can have a look at either fixing bugs or making the different variations of the chip selectable from the hardware description XML.

It would have to be dissimilarity in the digital output though; if it's analog filtering causing the differences then that's outside my area of expertise.

Few minor updates:

  • added 50 Hz equalizer (toggle with ctrl+f)
  • changed the clear screen routine (should now also work on real V9990).

Also I had a second go at metal squad song, still more like heavy synth instead of guitar sound, but getting closer Wink

It is not high on my to do list.
In P1 it is possible because all vram is interleaved, i.e. both PGT and PNT areas. In P2 PGT is interleaved but the PNT & SPAT is suddenly not interleaved anymore, which could be causing the problems.

It has been quiet for a while but here it is: a new update!
(available under the same link).

This update includes the following:

  • copy function with target clear (pattern editor)
  • list copy function (in list editor)
  • SCC voice bank support
  • SCC voice test mode
  • 50 / 60 Hz setting saved along with song
  • SCC frequency calculation bug fix (high notes should sound a little more in tune now)

Possibly even more but I forgot Smile

Though SCC voice bank support is included, the voice bank itself still needs to populated... I guess this will come over time Wink. A test SCC voice bank file can be found in the tests folder.

Using the SCC voice bank is a little tricky, so better look in the manual for that one.

Of course I also added a new song to the mix. I made it long back originally for the music module during a more experimental phase (just some variations on the same thing). I do not know why I picked this one to remake and also it turned out quite different... nonetheless it is an original creation inspired by the solid snake theme.
