Hello, does anyone still have the English version of this? I have only recently heard of it and I was wondering what is it like.
I know La-Mulana is not (exactly) an MSX game, but I don't know where else to post this.

If you are searching for the msx version, it can be found here

Do a web search for "la-mulana freeware" or something, you'll surely find something (e.g. there's an archive @ archive.org)

I checked the original site in the Wayback Machine - html pages are available, but the game .zip is not.

It's not a demo, but a full version btw. You'll have to patch it to English yourself.

- edit: I verified the archive.org zip (dd 2012-09-29 10:49:43) with my local copy, files are identical. Although the zip I have here also has a Japanese html manual included.

- edit2: if you lookup naramura.kdn.ne.jp/msx3/g3project/lamulana.html in the WbM, January 2007, you'll find some info pages, and the (downloadable) manual (all in Japanese). However, the manual, when put in the right place, will be translated to English as well (pretty cool right?) See the patch's README.

I know about the full version, I played it first. I'm specifically looking for the English demo, which was found here.

I have backed up the whole website of Naramura when it was still up.
I have 3 versions (and some other files) over here. But I can't seem to run them at the moment (windows 10 incompatible?) I guess you want one of these?

pre: 8-2005
early: 10-2005
sample: 12-2008

@Huey: that is very interesting; I would also be interested in those demo versions (Japanese and English).

There were some more interesting things on his website that have been lost to the internet. There was a demo of a hydlide 2 remake in Dante 2. And some of the images in his Dante 2 guide cannot be seen through the wayback machine. I would be interested in those for the translated version of his guide...

When Naramura shut down the g3project (sub)site in 2007, he put up a 'site data' archive for a while (archived page).

Check the Shmups link posted by BignellaMSX in /forum/msx-talk/software/real-or-not (discussing GR3), you can retrieve this zip (54.6 MB) via the archived 'White Knell' page.

The stuff Huey mentions is in there, not sure about the Hydlide stuff. Perhaps the parent msx3 page (2006-12-09) is of relevance as well?
Note: 1 pos. to the right (2007-02-20) there's an updated (final so it seems) 'what's new' section. (Although, the dates in that section don't seem to make much sense?)

- edit: the Dante2 thing seems to be something that evolved to 'Minds' (see the 'game' section (arch) of the main Naramura page). DeepL translation:

Quote:

This is the main game I'm working on right now. I'm working on it slowly because I don't have much time. I used to finish it with RPG Tucool 3 and sent it to A-con, but the video work I sent in addition to it won an award. If you go back even further, it was a game I was trying to make for Dante2 for MSX2, so it was my second... oops, third remake since I almost made it for RPG Tutool 2000value. I think you should get over it.

Ah well, if Huey's got a site backup, it might be more convenient to browse through that :)

Thanks Ren; i looked through it but I couldn't find it. It is indeed in the parent msx3 page from before 8-2005. So perhaps it can be found in Huey's data.

I believe it's also on the 2006/2007 page version (the top link on the 'Constraction' page).
That (the demos) would be naramura.kdn.ne.jp/msx3/const/down/nisehyd.lzh and/or naramura.kdn.ne.jp/msx3/const/down/nisehyd2.lzh (which give a Not Found error)

No, sorry. Before making the thread, I downloaded folders from the White Knell archive previously mentioned that are apparently the same as yours. None of them were in English unfortunately:

  • sample is the first version of La-Mulana made with no dialogue, only showing up again in their video promoting the remake's PC port.
  • pre is short for "preview", their demo version that was later called a Trial, specifically the one in Japanese.
  • early is the same as the full game but with minor differences, later called Preview. Possibly one of the versions released before they "completed" it in 2006.
