Hi there, i'm new in the msx world, I have an msx2 panasonic fs-a1 modded with the bios pin to ground in order to avoid the deskpak.

I am trying to format the cf with call fdisk but it seems impossible, it tells me "There are no suitable logical units". When I enter nextor basic and the computer reboots, I press the 1 key as I have seen in another post, but it doesn't work either.

I have 2 CF with 4gb, one from AGFA and another from Transcend (this one is in the compatibility list).

what else could i try? Thanks in advance. Smile

Do you have a IDE only entry in the boot menu? With the default boot option the FDISK tool does not find the IDE device.

First of all, please make sure that you have "Dual-Reset" option enabled in the configuration menu of Carnivore2. Also make sure that your CF cards are formatted on PC with FAT file system. If you don't have any partitions on your cards, Nextor will not see them.

Follow the instructions here:

Surely FDISK should see the card even if there's no partition on it? It's the partitioning program!

@sdsnatcher74 Is the default entry without IDE? I think mine was with IDE (and FM and SCC).

Anyway, what do I know. It worked for me (on my FS-A1GT).

Ah, now I know what the problem is. The card is not fully compatible with Carnivore2. When you see an error detecting the slave device, then the master device will not work. You need to get the Nextor BIOS without slave support and flash it into the cartridge using C2MAN's Service Menu. Or you need the card that doesn't trigger the detection of the slave device.

The Nextor BIOS without slave device support BIDECMFC.BIN can be found in this archive:

The report of the "Unnamed device" is weird. What happens if you select that one?

Apparently, the C2 inherited the bug from the Nextor driver for Sunrise CF/IDE interface with the slave cards. I wonder now if that's also what's keeping some SD-CF adapters from working.

I think Nestor Soriano could officially release his Nextor BIOS for Carnivore2 with by-default disabled slave device. In his releases there are already special versions of his BIOS for FlashJacks and MFR. So why not having a version for Carnivore2 with 0.1.7 or later driver and disabled slave support? This way we won't need to constantly update our repository with new versions.

The default entry has IDE but IDE is in a subslot. Sometimes this leads to issues with the FDISK program. Having a IDE only config entry (without slot expansion) helps in those cases.
