Description

The Daewoo CPC-330K is an educational computer for small children. This product is also called Kobo. It comes with an amazing split keyboard on which a smaller attachment with only symbols can be locked. It was released in Korea.

This machine has only one regular cartridge slot, but an expansion bus on the back can be converted for MSX cartridges. It was provided with a software cartridge - see video. Its comes with its own external power supply that seems to be similar to the power supply of the CPG-120 console.

Besides the computer and the cartridge, the following accessories were available:

  • CMC-472K - Monitor ₩225,000
  • CPC-472K - Monitor stand and drawer ₩35,900
  • CPJ-102K - Joystick ₩13,900
  • CPK-31K - Orange keyboard attachment with symbols ₩25,900 (used by the software cartridge to teach small children the Korean alphabet)

This computer can be viewed as a console, as it seems to have been produced in the same funny spirit as the CPC-61 and CPG-120 Zemmix consoles. It has an extra text mode in Basic, the SCREEN 9. It is a text screen mode based, in the Daewoo consoles, on the graphic SCREENs 5 and 6 to display Korean characters.

Specifications

The CPC-330K is a MSX2 that does not use a MSX-Engine but a custom IC DW64MX1 that includes the 8255 PPI, slot select circuitry, a memory mapper and various glue logic. The CPU is a Z80A from Goldstar (GSS Z8400A PS).

The main RAM is present on slot 0-2, a configuration that can cause poorly written software to crash. Also, with this layout, the POKE-1,(15-PEEK(-1)\16)*17 trick to workaround buggy software that does not handle subslots properly will cause this machine to freeze.
